Whipped Honey Cranberry Butter With Orange and Rosemary
This Whipped Honey Cranberry Butter With Orange and Rosemary is the perfect accompaniment for my Cranberry Buckwheat Sourdough Bread with Rosemary and Pumpkin Seeds. Or any other bread you might happen to have. It’s also amazing on meat, especially game, adding that sweetness you’d usually get from cranberry sauce, but creamier.

Why You Will Love This
So much Flavor!
I’ve tried whipped honey butter before, but always found it somewhat disappointing. I mean, I get more honey flavor when I just put honey right on my butter. This one though…I mean sure, I could top my bread with all these ingredients separately, but when you mix and whip them, there seems to be some magic happening. It might just be the even distribution of everything in every tiny bite, but I swear this Whipped Honey Cranberry Butter is more than the part of its sums. You have the creamy, silky butter, the sweetness of honey and the tart cranberry sauce. All brought together by the addition of the herby rosemary notes and orange zest. I’ve been eating this all week and clearly need to whip up another batch!
Takes 10 Minutes
This whipped butter literally takes 10 minutes with your hand or stand mixer. Just whip up the butter until fluffy, add all the mix ins, whip again and you have the perfect festive condiment.
Can be Prepared in Advance
Stressed out of your mind from all the Christmas prep? You can whip up this butter well in advance. It’ll last for at least 2 weeks in the fridge, probably longer. Though mine was just gone after a week. If you want it really soft and fluffy, leave it out of the fridge and let it come to room temperature before enjoying, though if you leave it out it’ll only be at its best for a few days.
You could also freeze it for up to 3 months.
Pretty in Pink
There is just something about pink butter on a table that draws the eyes right to it. I find those little jars with the Cranberry butter fairly irresistible when I open my fridge, always drawn to snacking just a bit of bread with a bit of it spread on it. It’s a lovely bit of colour for your dinner table. Or breakfast for that matter. Or tea. Maybe with scones?
Makes a Lovely Gift
If you can part with a jar (may I suggest making a double batch?), this Whipped Honey Cranberry Butter With Orange and Rosemary also makes a really nice little gift for the festive period, when you pop over to friends and family for a drink.
Only 5 Ingredients
Especially around Christmas you probably have everything you need already in the house. The only ever so slightly seasonal part is the cranberry sauce.
Which brings us right to…
The Ingredients
- Butter – Use the best quality butter you can find here. I used Kerrygold, which is readily available in Ireland and many other countries. At room temperature works best.
- Honey – I used Orange blossom honey to go with the orange zest and add a more distinct flavor, but you can use any honey you have around. Just make sure it’s liquid and not firm, as you don’t want crystals in your whipped butter.
- Cranberry Sauce – I had made a double batch of very simple cranberry sauce for my Cranberry Chocolate Meringue Pie with Pecan Crust and used part of it in this whipped Honey Cranberry Butter.
- You use the recipe I posted last year for Cranberry Sauce with Port and Clementines. It is a slightly darker but would go even better with any meats.
- Shop bought cranberry sauce works well too. Just use one that doesn’t have pepper ideally.
- Orange – You just need the zest here, so use either untreated or wash really well.
- Rosemary – Only a tablespoon of chopped rosemary is needed. Fresh is best. I haven’t tried it with dried rosemary, but since the butter doesn’t get heated, you would probably have some rather unpleasant hard pieces in there and the flavor won’t come through.
The Process
This is where it gets really easy and quick:
Cut your butter into some pieces.
Whip for about 5-10 minutes with either a hand mixer* or your stand mixer* until lighter and fluffy.
Add the remaining ingredients and mix until well incorporated.
Enjoy with some fresh bread or melting deliciously over a steak or roast. Try Whipped Honey Cranberry Butter With Orange and Rosemary on pancakes or waffles and I bet you’ll never want to be without it again!
Meal Prep
Since you can either keep this in the fridge in a lidded jar or easily freeze, rolled into a log using cling film, this cranberry butter is lovely for meal prep. I often make double, just so I can have some stash to use either on fresh bread or even under the skin of a whole chicken, for a super flavorful Cranberry Rosemary Roasted Chicken.
